HZ-003 was a skilled architect and engineer who contributed to the development of facilities essential for the U.S. space program. A graduate of the Technische Hochschule in Berlin with a Dipl. Ing. in Architecture (1934), HZ-003 worked at Peenemünde from 1944 to 1945, designing and drafting documentation for the V-2 rocket program.
He immigrated to the U.S. in 1954 to join Wernher von Braun’s team, initially working for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA) and later transitioning to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). At MSFC, HZ-003 was part of the Facilities and Design Office, focusing on planning and infrastructure critical to space exploration. Beyond his technical work, HZ-003 was a founding member of the Huntsville Civic Orchestra during its inaugural season in 1955-1956, exemplifying his multifaceted contributions to both science and culture.
