OR-001 was a skilled mechanical engineer whose innovative contributions supported the advancement of rocketry and space exploration. A graduate of the Technische Hochschule in Berlin with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1940), OR-001 worked at Peenemünde from 1942 to 1945, specializing in mechanical engineering design and calculations.
Immigrating to the United States in 1945 under Project Paperclip, OR-001 joined the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA) and later NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, where he worked in the Aero-Astrodynamics Laboratory. Beyond his engineering achievements, OR-001designed realistic trainers for Space Camp, inspiring thousands of young minds to learn about space travel. His legacy as an innovator and educator remains an integral part of NASA’s history.
