Walter Haeussermann (1914–2010) was a leading physicist and engineer whose innovations in guidance systems were instrumental in the development of rocket technology. After earning a doctorate in physics from the University of Technology in Darmstadt in 1939, he worked at Peenemünde on rocket guidance platforms before being recruited under Project Paperclip in 1948. At NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, he served as the Director of the Guidance and Control Division and later led the Astrionics Laboratory, overseeing the technologies critical to Apollo’s success. Haeussermann also dedicated his knowledge to teaching, serving as a physics lecturer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
